Skin, Flesh and Bone, Part II
By LIFEDANCE/Gloria McLean & Dancers
Choreographer: Gloria McLean
Dancer: FINA
Music: Composed and played by Takao Heisho
Costume: Ken Hiratsuka
Performed at Leo Koenig Inc., Ailey Studios and
Ailey Citigroup Theater for American Dance Guild
Based on Zeami's essays on the Noh Drama of Japan, the dance is inspired by his 3-part image for the art of the performer. Part II addresses "Flesh" understood as the "acquired skills" of the performer, and is a fully-composed choreography around the motif of moving backwards, sensing "the space in back of me". Originally premiered in silence by Gloria McLean at Dia, the piece has been re-created for FINA with newly created percussion music by Takao Heisho.
